About the Photographer

Patrick Demarchelier was born in 1943 near Paris. Patrick Demarchelier spent his childhood with his mother and his four brothers in Le Havre.

On his seventeenth birthday, his stepfather gave him his first Kodak Kammera. The foundation for the photographer's career was put and Patrick Demarchelier quickly developed into a talent behind the Kammera.
His professional career began in Patrick Demarchelier in the darkroom of girls' boarding schools, where he had compiled for the students portfolio.
Already Here he refined his technique, sharpened his eye for the models and developed his own personal style.

The fashion photography Patrick Demarchelier discovered during his work as a freelancer. The work, which he created here moved quickly to the attention of magazines like Elle, Marie Claire, or the 20 to the magazine at him.

1975 Patrick Demarchelier left France and went, even though he spoke no English, to New York to follow his girlfriend in the States. But before Patrick Demarchelier really arrived in New York, she left him again.
Remained in New York, he learned English from either the TV or directly from the street. New York, which should be the city where Patrick Demarchelier's international career could really start as a photographer: For here he worked for the magazine Glamor & Madmoiselle.

Later, Patrick Demarchelier has worked for Vogue and Harper's Bazaar.
His work was quickly noticed by key figures in the fashion industry, so that it always has been repeatedly asked for international campaigns to photography.
Dior, Louis Vuitton, Céline, Tag Heuer, Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Lacoste, Lancome, Guerlain, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Versace, Giorgio Armani, Sneakers, Gianfranco Ferre, Anne Klein, Valentino, Prada, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Salvatore Ferragamo, Donna Karan, Michael Kors and many more ... did campaigns by Patrick Demarchelier.

In 2004 he began an exclusive partnership with Condé Nast publications (Glamor, Mademoiselle, Vogue etc), although he continued, hundreds of covers with his photographs graced.

On 23 November 2007 Patrick Demarchelier was by Christine Albanel, Minister of Culture and Communication, was honored with the Order of Arts and Literature (Ordre des Arts et des Lettres).
